We begin at the car park at Passo della Mendola and follow path no. 500 southwards. After around 20 minutes we reach Rifugio Genzianella. We continue on path no. 2 towards the Roen Stube. The trail descends slightly to the valley station of the chair lift, then ascends along the slope and the lift. Once at the summit, there are only a few hundreds metres left to the Rifugio Mezzavia.
We decide to proceed to the panoramic viewpoint Monte Lira. From here, we enjoy a stunning view of the surroundings, stretching from the Bassa Atesina to Bolzano, to the Dolomites and the Catena Principale Alpina. Far below in the valley, we can even spot Lake Caldaro. We return to Rifugio Mezzavia, just in time for a delicious lunch. It took us almost two hours for one way and the visit to the panoramic viewpoint. For our way back we choose path no. 500 which leads back to Passo della Mendola in about one hour.
