We start at the car park at Passo della Mendola and follow path no. 500 southwards. After about 20 minutes we reach Rifugio Genzianella. We continue on path no. 2 towards the Roen Stube. The trail slightly descends to the valley station of the chair lift, then ascends along the ski slope and the lift. Having arrived at the summit, we only need to cover a few hundred metres until we arrive at the Rifugio Mezzavia.
We decide to proceed to the panoramic viewpoint Monte Lira. From here, we enjoy a stunning view of the surroundings, stretching from the Bassa Atesina to Bolzano, to the Dolomites and the Catena Principale Alpina. Far below in the valley, we can even spot Lake Caldaro. We return to Rifugio Mezzavia, just in time for a delicious lunch. It took us almost two hours for one way and for the visit to the panoramic viewpoint. For our return we choose path no. 500 which takes us back to Passo della Mendola in about one hour.
