Hike from Mt Penegal to the Prinz mountain hut

The sun is shining and the weather forecast for our hike on Mt Penegal is excellent. We park our car at the car park right in front of the former Hotel Serafino. We spot the panoramic tower nearby the hotel right away. Of course, we get to the top of the tower from where we have a fantastic panoramic view of Lake Caldaro, the Laghi di Monticolo, the cities of Bolzano and Laives and the Bassa Atesina area.

Still amazed by the panoramic view, we take path no. 500 towards Bait del Prinz. Initially, the path runs along a forest road which then narrows and proceeds through a dense forest. After a steep descent, we reach a clearing covered with colourful flowers. We are surrounded by butterflies and buzzing bees.

We continue to follow path no. 500 through forests and meadows. Some spots delight us with panoramic views of the valley, the Bolzano basin, and Appiano. After less than an hour walk, we reach a crossroads where several paths intersect, including those to Lago di Tret and Mt Macaion. We take the path on the left towards Bait del Prinz. After another 30-minute walk, we finally reach our destination. This huge clearing is the perfect spot for our picnic. After eating delicious speck, cheese, bread and fruit, we relax in the sun. We lie down on our blanket and read a few pages of the books we brought with us...

At around 3 pm, we return to our car by retracing our steps.
