On the altipiani dell’Alpe Cimbra you can discover a unique blend of history and nature, for example, by hiking from Forte Dosso Cherle to the Agriturismo Malga Vallorsara

We begin our hike at the Forte Cherle hotel, along the road from Passo Sommo to Villaggio Fiorentini, where we take path no. 30, signposted "giro del Cherle". After a few minutes, we reach the remains of the Austrian fortress, dating back to the Great War. Information boards tell about the history and purpose of "Forte Dosso Cherle", also known as "Werk Sebastiano". From here, you have a fantastic view of the altopiano di Lavarone.
We continue on the forest road descending to the military cemetery and switch to the opposite side of the provincial road. Here, we climb the steps of the "Scala dell'Imperatore". If you have time, you could walk along the switchbacks of the comfortable forest road climbing along the hill near the staircase, until you arrive at the basis of a former Austro-Hungarian military hospital. From here, you keep on following the forest path, which proceeds across forests for about four kilometres to the meadows surrounding the malga.
Malga Vallorsara, one of Folgaria's historic malghe, is located in a stunning spot at 1,500 m a.s.l. The restaurant of the Agriturismo offers typical regional dishes and cheeses and is usually open during summer. In the afternoon, we return to Forte Cherle on the same route, once again admiring the meadows, forests and the impressive remains of the Great War.
