From the Malga Valmaggiore to Lake Brutto

A steep path leads us from the Valmaggiore Hut above Predazzo to the three beautiful mountain lakes in the Lagorai chain: Lago Brutto, Lago di Moregna and Lago delle Trote

We follow the mountain road from Predazzo in the Val di Fiemme valley until the parking space of the Malga Valmaggiore mountain hut. Here, at 1,620 m a.s.l., our hike starts. The path no. 339 to Lake Moregna (Lago di Moregna) presents itself on the first section as a forest road that becomes increasingly stony, narrow and steeper. After a 90-minute walk we reach the meadows of the Malga Moregna and descend to the beautiful lake, around which horses graze.

On the opposite shore we walk through the meadow until we reach the path no. 349b. We follow this path along the Cima Moregna ridge until the turnoff above the hut. The paths no. 339 and 349 lead us to Lake Brutto (Lago Brutto), the destination of our hike. Despite its name (brutto = ugly) it is an enchanting mountain lake, just as idyllically situated as the neighbouring Lago delle Trote (trout lake), which we could already admire during the ascent.

This hike leads to idyllic and original places, which are characteristic for the Lagorai chain. To get back to our starting point, we follow the same path. Finally, we end our tour with a delicious refreshment in the Malga Valmaggiore alpine hut.
