Hike to Lake Lagusel in the St Nicholas valley

The Val San Nicolò stretches from Pozza di Fassa to the Marmolada Group, ensuring relaxing moments amidst romantic forests and beautiful pastures

Our hike starts from the Sauc car park in the Val San Nicolò, east of Pozza di Fassa. We follow trail no. 640 towards Lagusel. Initially, the path flanks a stream, before branching off to the left and ascending along a mountains slope to the meadows of Lagusel. This section accounts for most of the ascent of this tour. Once there, we admire the beautiful landscape, with the sky and surrounding forest reflected in the clear water of Lake Lagusel.

We proceed towards Passo Sella Palacia (signpost no. 641). From the mountain pass, which is situated beneath the peaks of Costabella (Sas de Pecol), we can admire the Catinaccio group towards west. We descend steeply back into the Val San Nicolò, looking forward to a break at the Rifugio Baita alle Cascate, which issurrounded by stunning alpine meadows with the Jonta waterfalls behind it.

For our return journey, we take the valley road. This road leads us through a fantastic alpine landscape and past wooden mountain huts. The car park, our starting point, is behind the Rifugio Ciampe.
