A pleasant stroll in the forest of the valley below Passo Tonale is a recommended alternative for a day of unpredictable weather. Our hike through the forests of the Val di Vermiglio begins on the path to Malga Pecè near Velon, a locality on a side road off the SS42, between Vermiglio and Passo Tonale.
After a 50-minute walk, we arrive at Malga Pecè, which is not a restaurant but a shop selling delicious home-made cheese. In the immediate surroundings there are wooden tables and benches for a rest or a picnic.
Instead of returning to Velon via the same path, we take the forest road uphill. We walk through the forest until we reach the damp meadows at Passo Tonale. Our forest path ends at the junction with the SS42 pass road. We follow this road for 200 metres towards Vermiglio. From hwere, you can take a bus back to the turn-off for Velon (if you plan to take the bus we recommend checking the updated timetable, as services vary depending on the season). If you opt for walking, you need to plan 2 more hours for the 7.4 km long route.
