Our circular hike begins in Pampeago at the valley station of the ski lift. Just above the 'Latemar' ski lift, we take the 'Latemar Natura' path which branches off to the left from the main path heading towards the meadows. We climb a slope into the woods and proceed to Malga Zischg-Alm at Passo Pampeago. At the crossroads, we follow the signpost no. 405 towards Passo Feudo and continue uphill across blooming meadows until we reach this mountain pass. Once there, we take path no. 515 towards the Rifugio Monte Agnello. This itinerary coincides with the 'Sentiero geologico Dos Capel', which runs through a fault landscape and features many informative panels. The geological path continues steeply uphill, past the peak of Dos Capel, offering wonderful views of the surroundings.
At the mountain station of the Tresca ski lift, where several paths converge, we take an unmarked path branching off from path no. 515, leading past screes to the peak of Monte Agnello. This short slope requires caution, as the path was in poor condition at the time of our hike. Despite the difficulties, the view from here is amazing and the perfect reward for our efforts. On the ridge of Monte Agnello, we head north-west and continue uphill to Rifugio Monte Agnello, situated near the mountain station of the Agnello ski lifts. Here, we stop for a well-deserved break before descending on an unpaved road, winding along the Latemar.Art path, which is decorated with stunning artworks. After passing Rifugio Chalet Caserina, the descent continues towards Pampeago, and we cover the last few metres on an asphalt road leading directly to our starting point. We recommend undertaking this hike in late June or early July if you want to admire a marvellous flora in full bloom.
There are several options to simplify this hike: you can avoid the poorly maintained path from Tresca to Monte Agnello by taking an alternative route leading directly to Rifugio Agnello. Doing so, you can reduce the overall climb and reach malga Zischg-Alm with the Latemar ski lift, then take the Agnello ski lift for your descent. However, if you choose this option, bear in mind that you will miss the tour's highlights, which can only be admired if you complete the full version of this hike.
